Tianeptine is a highly interesting anxiolytic with nootropic qualities. This substance is a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer (SSRE) and one of the only in its class. It is approved in France under the trade name, Stablon however usage has not been evaluated by the FDA in North America.
 
As an SSRE, tianeptine works opposite in effect to SSRI’s. The result is an increased brain production of serotonin. This is believed to be the main effect behind tianeptine’s, antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. Unlike SSRI’s this unique compound is not said to have negative effects on cognition and is thought to work much faster than traditional SSRI’s.

The nootropic benefits of tianeptine are thought to be a result of increased serotonin production. Effects on memory and mood may be observed in higher than normal dosages or in conjunction with serotonin precursors. This area has not been studied to a great extent and therefore using tianpetine contrary to recommended methods is highly ill-advised
